Students who achieve passing scores on each of the GED ® or HiSET ® tests are awarded a High School Equivalency diploma by the State Board of the North Carolina Community College System. GED ® and HiSET ® tests are available in English and Spanish. ABE classes are offered morning, afternoon, and evening at ACC’s main campus and the Dillingham Center. ABE students receive targeted reading and math instruction in a small group environment by trained specialists in our classrooms and computer labs so that they may transition to High School Equivalency (GED ® and HiSET ®) level classes. Students may enter ABE courses at any time and progress at their own pace. These FREE classes are appropriate for beginning adult readers through the intermediate reading level who have the ability to benefit from an academic setting as determined by ACC’s reading and math assessments. The Adult Basic Education (ABE) program includes basic reading, writing, and math skills. We also offer test fee scholarships and selected free college classes through our Basic Skills Plus program to qualified students enrolled in our program. Classes are offered morning, afternoon, and evenings distance options are also available. All of our classes emphasize contextualized study that will prepare you to tackle real life challenges in both higher education and the workforce.
